Meet Our Educational Consultant: Kayla Davies, PHD

Dr. Kayla Davies serves as our Educational Consultant here at Christian Wellness Center. She is responsible for designing faith-integrated wellness workshops, educational programs, SEL units for schools, parenting classes, and grief support groups that are grounded in evidence-based and culturally responsive practices. You may book her to lead professional development sessions on topics like cultural humility in language, code switching awareness, and AAVE affirmation —for Therapists, coaches, and support staff.

Dr. Davies is deeply invested in the intersection of social justice and linguistic diversity—especially in how Black English shapes and reflects cultural identity. Her educational journey includes an Associate of Arts, a Bachelor's in Counseling Psychology, a Master's in Pastoral Counseling and Clinical Mental Health, and a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration and Educational Leadership. With over 14 years of experience in higher education administration, she has dedicated myself to creating spaces where students from all walks of life can thrive and become the next generation of leaders and scholars, prepared to serve in an increasingly diverse world.

What truly drives Dr. Davies is her research in linguistic diversity, specifically around Black English. Linguistic diversity is often overlooked in diversity, equity, and inclusion conversations, yet it plays a crucial role in addressing social injustices. Through rigorous study and dynamic discussions, she has uncovered how language—particularly Black English—serves as a powerful reflection of culture and identity, and how it is tied to broader societal inequities. She is committed to changing the narrative and ensuring that language, including Black English, is recognized as a legitimate and essential part of our diverse society.

When not conducting research or leading initiatives in higher ed, churches, and organizations, you can catch her teaching yoga, exploring new places, or enjoying time with her family.
